Zoological Garden (Les Terrases de Fontvielle, Monaco) – this zoo is home to nearly 250 animals representing about 50 species: exotic birds, turtles, caimans, hippopotamuses, reptiles, primates and farm animals. None of the animals here were purchased.
What makes Monaco’s Zoological Gardens unique is that its animals were all donated, or were abandoned or seized by customs. Finally, when the park’s facilities mean that it is no longer possible to guarantee good living conditions, the animals are then transferred to more appropriate zoos (as was the case, for example, with the white rhinoceros that once resided there). The Zoological Gardens of Monaco are one of the last royal menageries in the world. There is a playground inside the zoo. Admission: €5 (adults), €2.50 (children ages 6-14), free for children under 6 years. Hours: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm & 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm daily.
